Robert P. Roy was born in Sherbrooke, Qc. He was interested in drawing and painting at a very young age.

After a long soul searching period, needing to choose between a career in art or in science, he decided to embrace studies in engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke. During his studies, he continued to take art lessons and paint on his own.

He continued his studies in painting at McGill University, Concordia and with independent teachers.. He later studied at the Saïdye Bronfman Centre for 2 years. He also attended numerous intensive workshops.

In 1995, he won first prize at the Concours d’Art de Pierrefonds and an Honorable Mention in 1997. He had is first solo exhibition in 2005 at the Avenue Art Gallery in Montreal. A member of the Kirkland artist association since 1998, he was named Artist of the Year in 2006.

In 2008, he won second prize at the prestigious art competition Rêves d’Automne in Baie St-Paul, Charlevoix, Qc.

In 2010, he was selected to represent Québec in an artistic and cultural exchange with Spain called Couleurs Sur le Monde, part of the Rêves d’Automne artistic annual event.  This week long event with renowned Spanish artists was a rich artistic and cultural experience.

Magazinart, an important art magazine in Québec, has published an article on his work in its Winter 2009-2010 edition.

His painting is a never ending study of form, colour and movement which are very much present in his work. He works to express feelings and impressions offered by the subject, trying to capture a balance between those three pillars of his research. He is interested in the interpretation of the subject, which is the way for him to create a personal work.

He participates in numerous Art Symposium in Québec and Toronto.
